Ethics cruical in current economic environment

History shows that in an economic downturn unethical behaviour and fraud are more likely to occur.

Obviously there are many reasons why.  At an organisational level it could be about business survial and  at an indiviudal level related to job security.

Mike Savage, head of Ernst & Young’s Fraud Investigation and Dispute Services group in Toronto Canada, believes that fraud is about pressure, opportunity and rationalization, all the aspects that an economic downturn presents.

As communications professionals we have a vital role to play in ensuring that our company or clients continue to act ethically and have the systems and processes in places to ensure this occurs.

Given that the recession is likely to continue to impact on how we operate for the next few years the time for action is now.
