New Year, New You?

I admit it – I am a complete sucker for New Year’s resolutions and of course, as the year wanes, I turn my attention to the week after Christmas when the time comes for a little reinvention.  This normally involves learning something, as the older I get the more I realise how much more there is to find out. But am I alone in this process?

In my sights for 2009 is at least one new language.  Reading through the schedule for next year’s PRiNZ professional development sessions I can’t help thinking I will have to find the space for at least some of the sessions. PR and the Law should be a must for every practitioner and if you set budgets, Financial Management would be a good one to try.  Maybe it is the new diary, filled only with spaces and possibilities that gets me hunting down self-improvement opportunities, or maybe the knowledge that as times will certainly be tougher next year it is best to be in training ready for the game ahead.  When do you stop and review – and what do you look for?

2009 is certainly going to be a year to remember – nobody has the experience to predcit what will happen here in NZ or around thre world.
PR and Comms people will be in demand – those who have the skills and expertise to give strong strategic and insightful advice will be the winners.
Reading, research, environmental scanning, and upskilling will be the key factors for survival.
Look out for our 2009 Conferecne in May, it will be a great chance to test your skill set and share it with the rest of the country to keep us positive and give us a direction.
